GlassybabyWe found out a few weeks ago that there is a good chance he will deploy within the year. Initial reaction: WHAT?! My whole world was rocked, turned upside. He was out of town, and and called to let me know as soon as he found out the news. My mom was on the other side of the country. I felt alone. After waking Mama up (3 hour time difference) I sobbed my eyes out not knowing what to do. How did this affect moving? How did this affect job hunting? How would we celebrate our first wedding anniversary?! Distraught, confused, angry, worried, there is no word to capture every emotion I felt within the next several hours after that phone call.
When my mom got back she said she had gotten something for me while she was away. I opened the sweetest card in reference to he and I getting married (in 40 DAYS!!!!!). I continued digging through the tissue paper and pulled out what felt like a paper weight. I opened the rectangular box and found 2 candle holders and 3 tea-light candles. I began reading about my new gift. The woman who invented glassybaby had battled cancer several times. She discovered a passion for glass blowing and put these reminders of hope and peace around her house. Eventually she won her battle and began her glassybaby business. Now, each night when I miss him I light the votives and the colors come alive. The warmth and reassurance that he is close comes back instantly.
So goes the old adage: mother knows best.
